| BACKGROUND |
Health is on everyone's mind today. Most people take it for granted until they become ill. Health insurance companies are looking for ways to promote good health, but true prevention is usually not part of health care coverage. Our present health care system is involved in disease monitoring and management. Physicians can offer medications or surgery after a disease is identified, but one must weigh the benefits against the side effects.
Maintaining good health is a skill that everyone can learn. Preventing the disease process from occurring is a worthwhile pursuit, but it requires a proactive approach to health. It starts with awareness regarding the common causes of disease and continues with small changes in daily living.
There are many factors that have a negative effect on our health Constant change from downsizing, reorganizing, and heavy scheduling in the workplace is creating unsurpassed levels of stress. More and more of our present day illnesses have been shown to be the direct result of our way of life. It is estimated that between 75% and 80% of all medical complaints are stress related. Over 50% of the people living in the United States report suffering from at least one symptom of stress on a regular basis. |
