Are your ears feeling plugged and congested? Have you tried a lot of different things to remedy it, but nothing seems to be working? I can help you get those ears unclogged, unplugged, and reduce the pressure immediately! Here are 7 different ways to fix a clogged ear.
I experienced plugged ears and congestion when we moved from Florida to Georgia. I was not used to the springtime pollen in Georgia, and end up with fluid retention in my ear. There are a lot of different ways to unclog ears, and these are my tried and true methods, so I wanted to share them with you.
7 Homeopathic Ways to Unclog Your Ears
1. To Unclog Ears Move Lower Jaw Left & Right
For a lot of my patients, the first thing I recommend to unclog an ear is to simply move your jaw left to right. This is especially important for folks who have temporomandibular joint misalignment, also called TMJ or jaw misalignment, because sometimes the structural mechanism of the ear canal is impaired. As you’re moving the jaw from left to right, a clicking noise is very common as the congestion begins to break up. You may also hear a pop immediately, or small popping noises. That means it’s time to do a few other things. (1)

2. To Unclog Ears Plug Nose & Blow
Many people know this next technique: just plug your nose and blow to open up your ears. Do this 3-5 times slowly, plugging the nose (and closing the mouth) then trying to exhale.
I’m a PADI certified scuba diver, and this is how we prepare our ears for a dive because it helps to open up and expand the eardrum. I found it really helpful when I did the PADI training, and I use it all the time now to unclog my ears. (2)

Another idea: plug nose, close mouth, try to swallow.
3. Plug Nose, Close Mouth & Swallow to Fix Clogged Ears
This one is very similar to nose plugging and blowing. But here, you’re going to close your mouth, plug your nose, and instead of exhaling, you’ll swallow. It’s a little harder than it appears, but it’s highly effective, because it causes a suction of pressure.
4. Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy to Unclog Ears
Number four on my list is manual lymphatic drainage therapy. Draining and moving the lymphatics is really key. Use two or three fingers from the chin along the jawline, up to your ear, and down the neck, in strokes in the shape of a “7”.
It’s very common to get a lot of lymphatic drainage with that one, and I like to add on to it a little. There are lymph nodes behind the ear and up into the skull as well. Using two fingers and some gentle pressure, lightly move your fingers along the neck, downward from behind the ear. Be sure to do both the left and right sides. Another thing I like to do is a type of gentle downward pulling of the fingers from the top of my sinuses down, to help open those channels. This is manual drainage, it’s hugely impactful on any type of sinus congestion.
Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Good For You?
Yes! Also known as lymphatic drainage massage, this gentle form of targeted massage can be used to relieve painful swelling in the arms and legs due to sluggish lymph movement. By gently manipulating the areas around lymph nodes, you encourage drainage and that sweet relief you’re looking for. A trained massage therapist can do it, but the wonderful thing about this kind of massage is that it’s almost better if you do it. It’s so easy and such a helpful thing to do for your body, make it part of your daily or weekly self-care routine. (3)
5. Neti Pot to Fix Clogged Ears
Incorporating a neti pot is also an excellent way to open up the tubes in the ears. It helps clear out any debris, allergens, and congestion causing inflammation in the small channels of the sinuses, which then encroach on the ear canals. A neti pot is nice because it uses warm water, warming from within to help relax those muscles and release congestion in the ear. Additionally, a warm compress may help too. I find that moving the fingers in circular patterns can be helpful when doing lymphatic drainage, and it can even be helpful to move the ear lobe in a circular pattern too.
6. Unclog Ears With Homeopathic Air Vita
To really get things moving, you may want to couple these moves with an anti-inflammatory nasal spray.
If you’ve seen any of my allergy videos, you know Air Vita is my go-to. It provides multi-symptom homeopathic relief that alleviates sinus congestion on top of any ear, nose and throat congestion.
Do two sprays in the nose, one in each nostril, and then two sprays in the back of the throat. It is great stuff.

7. Homeopathic Reboost Nasal Spray to Fix Clogged Ears
If there is a lot of sinus and ear congestion, Reboost is a fantastic decongestant. You can actually do these two, Air Vita and Reboost together, and they’ll be hugely impactful since a lot of your popping, ear congestion, and clogged ears happen to be from fluid inside the ear.
I often like to add homeopathics to combat and manage inflammation of the eardrum. One homeopathic that I love is Similasan. They have child and adult versions, but they’re all the same in terms of the homeopathics, it’s just the dosing that’s a little different. Put a few drops in your ear and you can literally feel it release. Also try LymphStim, to help fix clogged ears and more!
