Stop Tinnitis (Ringing Ears) Naturally

If you watch a lot of action movies, at some point you’ll run across a familiar scene: something explodes, and the main character is flung off his feet. The world goes fuzzy, sounds are muted and distorted – except for a persistent ringing that continues on until the world snaps back to normal. For some people – and you may be one of them – that sound doesn’t go away. When you have that constant noise in your ear, whether it’s more like a ringing or a buzzing, that’s a condition called tinnitus. Tinnitus is annoying, stressful, and can make it difficult to fully hear and participate in other parts of your life.

The Facts About That Ringing In Your Ears

Tinnitus doesn’t always present as a ringing in your ears – although a high-pitched ringing sound is the most common. However, there are a few other common noises associated with tinnitus:

  • Buzzing
  • Clicking
  • Hissing
  • Humming
  • Roaring

In fact, the Mayo Clinic says that “noises of tinnitus may vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal, and you may hear it in one or both ears. In some cases, the sound can be so loud it interferes with your ability to concentrate or hear external sound.”

If you notice this ringing in your ears, but it comes and goes, you may think that you don’t have tinnitus, since you don’t have a constant problem. However, tinnitus doesn’t always present as a never-ending ringing sound that just won’t stop. In reality, the sound in your ears may come and go. Tinnitus is actually more common than you might think, occurring in 15-20% of people. It is more common as you get older. (1)

Naturally Stop Your Ears From Ringing

“Drugs can’t cure tinnitus,” as the experts at the Mayo Clinic will tell you. But, “to help relieve your symptoms, your doctor may prescribe medication to treat an underlying condition or to help treat the anxiety and depression that often accompany tinnitus.” Other ways to try to treat ringing ears are through hearing aids, masking devices, and tinnitus retraining therapy – all of which commonly involve an electronic device in your ear. The Problem With Trying To Stop Tinnitus With Hearing Aids

You may have heard about their difficulties with hearing aids. Sometimes they amplify background noise too much. Other times, they can’t pick up certain pitches, like higher-pitched tones of voice. If there’s a way to naturally try to stop the ringing and restore your hearing, it sidesteps all those problems.

Why Medication Is a Bad Idea To Stop Ringing Ears

While medications certainly have their uses, many people do not wish to be medicated for every issue they have, unless there is no other option. All medicines have side effects, some of which might be worse than the ringing ears. Also, for every medication you take, there are rules; some medications cannot be taken with alcohol, or while driving. Some medications are only to be taken during certain times of the day. As well, the more medications you are taking, the more opportunity there is for drug interactions. But there are natural ways to address tinnitus. Here are some of the things you can do to help stop that annoying ringing once and for all.

Stop Your Ringing Ears By Checking Your Thyroid

An article in the US National Library of Medicine talks about the link between hypothyroidism and tinnitus. About 40% of patients with hypothyroidism experience a loss of hearing due to the ringing in their ears.

“Hypothyroidism is a condition where thyroid hormone is in insufficient quantity,” according to the article.

In this study, the research team studied patients with Meniere’s disease, an inner ear disorder that causes tinnitus. They noticed a “higher incidence of thyroid dysfunction in patients with Meniere’s disease, especially in middle aged patients,” and that “the subjective improvement of all symptoms was seen in all cases of Meniere’s disease with hypothyroidism after 12 weeks of treatment.”

Fortunately, there are ways to naturally treat hypothyroidism and stop that pesky ringing in your ears! You can check out my comprehensive thyroid healing program here. Treating Brain Inflammation Naturally Can Stop Ringing In The Ears

In June 2019, researchers at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson published a study about “potential treatments for tinnitus by connecting brain inflammation to the condition. They found inflammation in a sound-processing region of the brain triggers evidence of tinnitus in mice that have noise-induced hearing loss,” according to the University of Arizona. Shaowen Bao is one of the researchers in this study. He is also an associate professor of physiology. When it comes to tinnitus, he says “people have found clues for the cause of tinnitus, but because many parallel components are involved, we would block one component, then we would have to block another, then another still. Neuroinflammation seems to be involved in many of these components. We hope blocking neuroinflammation will give us a better chance to block them all, thereby stopping the tinnitus.” (3)

How To Stop Brain Inflammation and End Your Ears Ringing

Some of the easiest ways to reduce brain inflammation and stop ringing in the ears are to remove harmful foods from your diet. I recommend staying away from (or reducing your intake of) caffeine, alcohol, dairy sugars, inflammatory foods, and gluten. You can also supplement your diet naturally, with different types of mushrooms, melatonin, and magnesium. When you use magnesium, try magnesium7, as it lacks a lot of the nasty side effects of other magnesium supplements.

Stop Stress Naturally, Stop Ringing Ears

A study in the Clinical Practice & Epidemiology in Mental Health journal says, “emotional stress is frequently associated with otologic symptoms such as tinnitus and dizziness. Stress can contribute to the beginning or worsening of tinnitus.” In fact, their study found definitive links between stress and constantly ringing ears: “There was a clear progressive increase in stress as THI [Tinnitus Handicap Inventory] raised, with more impact of tinnitus in quality of life . . . The presence of stress symptoms, measured by ISSL [Lipp’s inventory symptoms of stress for adults] was observed in most of our patients with chronic subjective tinnitus . . . and it is directly associated with tinnitus annoyance.” (4)
